The boys varsity team continued its unbeaten start to the season by defeating the Chapman Panthers 4-0 Tuesday night. In a game moved up a day earlier due to incoming storms, the Cavaliers got off to a slow start, but eventually took over control of the game. David Davenport got his first varsity goal about midway through the 1st half when Landon Hosom played him a beautiful ball over the back line. He was able to take a touch and slot it underneath the oncoming Chapman keeper. The Cavaliers missed several more chances in the 1st half to double their lead, but instead took a 1-0 lead into half. The Cavs just needed 8 minutes in the 2nd half to up their lead to 3-0. A minute and a half in Joe Ledford received a pass out of midfield and laid it off at the top of the box for Ulyses Chavez who banged it into the corner of the goal. Soon after Ledford got another assist to Chavez when he beat a Chapman defender on the end line and screamed a ball across the face of goal that Chavez was able to poke in the net. Later on in the half Nic Marron Jr. got free at the top of the box and neatly finished his chance on a pass from Damien Lopez. Chapman countered a few times after the Cavs had a 4-0 lead, and nearly got on the scoreboard in the 64th minute when forward Gabe Perry got in behind the Dorman defense and ripped a shot on goal. Kaden Vaughn, who had just replaced Sammy Arteaga in goal, made a nice save and pushed the ball over the goal to preserve the shutout. Dorman closed out the game with a good amount of possession, but were unable to find a 5th goal. The Cavaliers move to 2-0-3 on the season, and will travel to Greenwood High School on Thursday for their next match. The JV game will begin at 6:00pm and Varsity will follow at 7:30.
