The Cavaliers started Region 3 AAAAA play last night with an important win against Boiling Springs 1-0. Neither team was able to really threaten too much in the 1st half of action, and the two sides went into the half time break tied 0-0. As the 2nd half started play opened up a bit more. The first 5 minutes saw end to end action, but both defenses held strong. The Cavaliers had 2 great looks at goal when Nicolas Marron Jr. broke in behind the Bulldog defense and hit a shot that Boiling Springs goalkeeper Emanuel O’Campo saved. The rebound fell right to Casey Hird who had his shot saved once again by O’Campo. Not even 5 minutes later Casey Hird hit the post on a header off a free kick by Carson Dinger. A few minutes after that Shawn Lilly got in behind the Bulldog defense on a nice through ball from Marron Jr. He poked it past an onrushing O’Campo, but the ball was cleared off the line by a Boiling Springs defender. Dorman continued to ramp up the pressure and finally got the game’s first and only goal at the 69 minute mark when Nicolas Marron Jr. crossed a ball in from the right side. The ball was headed out by a Boiling Springs defender, but landed right on the foot of Dustin Watts, who calmly took a touch and struck the ball neatly over the goalkeepers head. Dorman’s defense stood strong and quelled any chance the Bulldogs had of evening the score. The Cavaliers improve to 4-2-4 on the season and 1-0 in region play. Dorman’s boys travel to Gaffney on Monday night for another Region 3 contest at 7:00pm.
Dorman sophomore defender Rex Bingham was named the Iron Man Man of the Match for his outstanding play on Dorman’s back line.
