The Cavaliers took on unbeaten Wade Hampton on Monday night in a closely contested match. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers came away on the losing side, falling 3-1 to the Generals. Wade Hampton got on the board in the 20th minute when midfielder Gareth Greene unleashed a left footed shot from 20 yards out that rebounded off Dorman keeper Sammy Arteaga. Stone Parsons buried the deflected ball in the back of the net to give Wade Hampton a 1-0 advantage. The Cavaliers immediately came to life and gained an edge in possession; however, they were unable to capitalize on several chances. Wade Hampton earned a somewhat controversial free kick in the 29th minute from 25 yards out that Gareth Greene beautifully took and buried past Arteaga in the left corner. After several changes at half Dorman came out and immediately created trouble for Wade Hampton. In the 42nd minute Joe Ledford drove past the General defense down the left side and laid a perfect cross in the box that forward David Davenport buried in the back of the net. The Cavaliers continued to mount pressure on the General for the next 30 minutes of the half and had several very good looks at goal, but were denied by Wade Hampton. The final 10 minutes of the game saw the Cavaliers push forward with pressure and intensity, and in the 80th minute Wade Hampton was able to clear a chance by the Cavaliers and score on a late counter to seal the victory. The Generals moved to 8-0-1 on the season while the Cavaliers fell to 2-2-3. David Davenport earned Iron Man Man of the Match honors for his effort in the contest. The Cavaliers will travel to Atlanta, Georgia this weekend to play two matches against Discovery High School and perennial Georgia 6A powerhouse Collins Hill.
