On Friday night Dorman took on Discovery High in Lawrenceville, GA. The Cavaliers were able to score in the 1st half on an unassisted goal by Damien Lopez, who was able to dribble past a defender, and then caught the keeper off his line, and chipped the ball over his head. Dorman took a 1-0 lead into half. The 2nd half saw the Cavs play continue to improve and about midway through the half Carson Dinger nailed a half volley from midfield that somehow found its way over the Discovery keeper’s head and into the net. That goal secured the win for Dorman and improved their record to 3-2-3 on the season. Damien Lopez was named Iron Man Man of the Match on the night!
On Saturday morning the team had a great experience traveling to Stone Mountain State Park. The highlight of the trip was the Sky Top Ride on a gondola to the top of Stone Mountain. While on top, the boys and girls teams were able to pose for a ton of group pictures, and a few even had time to set up their Eno hammocks and catch a quick nap. Once the team returned to the ground they enjoyed a great picnic in the woods.
The boys traveled to Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, GA to take on the perennial powerhouse GA 6A Eagles. The Eagles caught the Dorman defense napping about 15 minutes into the half to take a 1-0 lead. Dorman pressed and created a few good chances off set plays, but were unable to score. In the 2nd half the Cavaliers came out and immediately put pressure on Collins Hill. About 10 minutes into the half a cross from Dustin Watts found Nic Marron Jr’s head and he was able to put the ball into the back of the net to even the score. The Cavs continued with their strong play and almost took the lead when Damien Lopez hit a curling shot from outside the box that hit the post. The rebound fell to Ulyses Chavez, but he was unable to settle the ball for a shot. The match ended in a 1-1 draw due to GHSSA rules on non-conference games. Nic Marron Jr. was named Iron Man Man of the Match for the game.
